Jason Gillespie: News
Former cricketer Jason Gillespie was one half of Australia's most successful new-ball pair. Fast, aggressive, and tenacious with a mullet, Gillespie was a throwback to fast bowlers of the '80s and '90s. There has been no bowler in the modern era with the amount of "play and miss" than Gillespie. It was due to the amount of movement he put on his deliveries. Gillespie was the first male to have an acknowledged Aboriginal ancestry to play a Test for Australia. He made his first-class debut in the 1994-95 season, and within no time, he made his international debut in an ODI against Sri Lanka in 1996. Gillespie's Test debut was against West Indies in 1996 as well. However, in the first few years of his career, he was unable to play consistent international cricket due to various injuries. When he returned in 2001, he had a shorter run-up which in turn reduced his pace but kept him away from further injuries. Gillespie's tenacity was visible when he batted as well. The double century he scored against Bangladesh as a nightwatchman in the last ever series he played for Australia in 2006 is a testament to his tenaciousness and stubbornness as a player.
